Your first question might be, doing what? For which charity? If I'm totally honest I'm not entirely sure myself as yet.
I'm a 24 year old male and I have realised I have always lived my life for the day, focused on what is going on right now. This might have been good when I was younger but now at 24 I have no savings to speak of and have no goals mapped out in life. I decided it was about time for a change.....and this is that change.
I am by no means physically fit, but I am not a total non-athlete. Over the last year I have ran a half marathon in 2 hours 26 minutes, a 10k in 55:02 and a 5k in 26:26. Anyone who knows running will know none of these times are exactly lightning. I have found exercise is something I always go back to and so this is where I decided to set my goal.
This week a 70 year old man has swam the English channel and I thought, 'if a man in his 70's can achieve such a feat, then why can't I?' I am not a confident swimmer so the channel is out of the question. I thought, it has to be running or cycling, which I have just started doing in the last month or so. So I set myself a challenge, one which gives me a focus for the forseeable future. My challenge:
To cycle John O'Groats to Landsend!
I know very little about doing this (not even sure of the spelling), but I do know it is at least 800 miles. And that's it..that is all I have. Oh, except, I have decided I will have trained and completed this within 3 years from today. And to make sure that I don't give up I will do it for charity. I'm not sure which charity or charities yet so that is where I want you to get involved. Please suggest charities which I could represent and contact me with your charity and reason.
I will give a short update once a month, giving details of training and general information I have found out about this challenge. So between now and the next time you here from me, I will do some research about the route, YOU will have suggested some charities, and I will begin thinking about setting myself a target time for completing the ride.
Please spread the word, as I think we can do a lot of good for charity with such an event!! Thank You!!
